While teachers do not engage in any type of formal counseling with students, it is still important that you understand the role guidance and counseling can play in a gifted student’s academic life. From this perspective, there are several things that teachers can do to help their students know themselves better. Teachers can also provide valuable resources to students and parents as students move through times of change or decision-making (such as moving from elementary school to middle school, middle to high, beginning to explore possible careers, etc.)
You will have two things to do this week, one discussion and one learning activity (and some reading and researching, of course!). As you move through the content of these topics, please continue to relate the new information back to your students, and/or grade level as you can.

1. Discussion Forum 6.1
2. Reading Assignments
3. Learning Activity 6.1
4. Self-Assessment #3
(does not count as a grade)
