Once you have your environment in place you are ready to use the EP to help you design, modify, and differentiate the curriculum to best meet the needs of each student. STOP! How can you take each EP and design a unique program for each student, throughout the year, for all areas of the curriculum? The answer is to incorporate the strategies discussed in this course. Will every lesson meet the unique needs of every student every time? The answer is no! However, when choices are offered, you increase the odds that Johnny or Diana will be able to find a choice that will be motivating, challenging, and of interest.
Let’s look closely at Frank’s EP. How can you develop an Extensions Menu that would help him personally, and yet, work for other students as well? Because Frank loves to write and science is the topic you are working on, the Extensions Menu is designed to spark his interest, provide choices for him to develop and demonstrate mastery and use his writing to support his scientific explorations. This is such an important part of putting it all together.
